Work Truck West Unveils First International/ Chevrolet Mechanic Service Trucks in Canada

Posted: June 28, 2019 | Category: Buying a Work Truck,Service Trucks

The first all new International/ Chevrolet CV515 work trucks have officially hit the Canadian streets and backroads in the form of an innovative and fully-loaded mechanics service truck package. The trailblazing combination of the newly released Class 5 chassis paired with a state-of-the-industry 11’ enclosed service body and leading-edge mounted equipment comes courtesy of Work Truck West, Western Canada’s work truck equipment specialists.

The big story with this trendsetting truck package is a much higher payload. The finished truck package, including chassis, body, and all mounted equipment, delivers an impressive 3,000 lbs of additional hauling capacity vs. other Class 5 service trucks. “We recognized a need for our mobile service mechanic customers to be able to carry more mounted equipment, tools, and spare parts with them in their work trucks, while also operating in compliance with safety and weight regulations,” explained Rob Beukema, vice president of Work Truck West. “The significantly improved carrying capacity will enhance our customers’ mobile service capabilities when they’re working away from the shop.”

Co-designed by International and GM and released as the Chevrolet 6500 HD in the United States, the new International CV515 chassis features a 6.6L Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 engine and Allison transmission, renowned for their reliability and serviceability among their user groups.

The weight savings doesn’t stop at the new and improved chassis design. The Work Truck West service body mounted on the back of the truck is comprised of aluminum cabinet and load space doors on a steel frame, combining strength and body integrity while reducing weight wherever possible. The body is also powder coated instead of painted, offering a thicker and more durable coating against the harsh extremes of Canadian environmental conditions.

Such an innovative chassis and body package demanded nothing but the latest and greatest in mounted equipment to add to crew’s capabilities on the job site. Work Truck West completed the body package with a Miller EnPak multi-function unit, a powerful and versatile addition offering functionality of a welder, air compressor, generator, and battery booster all in one compact and space saving component.

The mounted crane is an Auto Crane EHC-5 electric hydraulic telescoping crane with wireless remote controls, with up to 5,000 lb. lifting capacity, and 360° power rotation. Auto Crane features the NexStar control system, offering 100% proportional, pressure-sensitive push-button speed control in all crane functions and easily indicating when a load is within capacity or overweight for improved operator safety.

“We’re excited for the potential of this innovative new work truck package in the markets we serve here in Canada,” added Rob. “Even though this is a larger truck, it is still within the Class 5 range, which avoids the use of air brakes and ensures that anyone with a valid drivers license can operate it. We think this will be a game changer for our customers as they take on larger infrastructure projects in more remote locations.”
